Immersing
Yourself in the Moment
Bake something, don’t follow the recipe to exacting standards,
take liberty and create something new.
Take a 15 minute walk by yourself- breathe deeply and fully, move
your body vigorously, don’t think
about anything except for the sensations
you feel.
Spend a couple of hours playing card or board games with some friends
– even get out some
childhood favorites
Expose yourself to different smells and notice how they affect your
mood.
Take a half-hour nap
Laugh for no reason at all, once you start its hard to stop.
Take a nice warm bath, thinking of nothing but the way the water
feels against your body
Go into a garden, stare at one flower focusing on the beauty of
it for several seconds, then take a step
back and open your eyes wide taking
in the landscape around that flower, see the way it fits into place.
Do other arts or crafts that you don’t normally do. Learning
is half the fun.
Learn from the masters, children and pets. Play with them on their
level not yours.
Spend a full 30 minutes immersing yourself into some music of your
choice, with no other distractions.
Try to pick out the different instruments
and concentrate on hearing their part of the whole and then listen
to the way they all come together.
Take yourself to lunch, getting the one thing you really crave.
Take every bite slowly and enjoy the smell,
the taste, and the texture of the
food.
Have you ever danced in your living room alone when nobody else
was around?
Read a book that you really are into or an old favorite; try one
from your childhood.
Go to a movie, play, a concert, or the opera.
Go out into nature and spend some time alone. Treat yourself to
a wonderful view.
Finger Paint
Try coloring in a coloring book, being careful to stay within the
lines and choose your colors because
they feel good to you, not because
you know rabbits are supposed to be brown, white, or gray, because
a red and yellow bunny makes you
feel good.
