Purpose
The purpose of Harmony is to provide a safe and pleasant environment
where adult consumers of mental health services can interact socially
with others who understand their illness and where pre-employment
and daily living skills could be acquired or re-learned.
Clubhouse
The Harmony Day Program provides many pre-vocational as well as
social opportunities. The day program operates Monday through Friday
from 9a.m to 3p.m. It offers members the chance to be productive
by taking part in all aspects of the clubhouse which includes pre-vocational
skills, socialization, and wellness education groups.
All of this takes place within the warm, pleasant
environment of the clubhouse. In order to serve their purpose the
Harmony clubhouse offers three pre-vocational work units. Each unit
performs a specific task essential to the operation of the clubhouse.
Pre-vocational activities at the clubhouse include:
- Food Service Unit
- Prepares a Daily Hot Lunch
- Planning of Weekly Menu
- Purchasing of Food Products
- Clerical Unit
- Publishing A Weekly and Monthly Newsletter
- Computer Skills Training
- Store Unit
- Managing the Re-sale Shop
- Receiving of Goods from the Community
- Stocking of Goods
- Selling of Goods
Outreach
Transportation to and from the club is provided for most outlying
areas. The Harmony Program also facilitates an outreach program
which focuses on contracting absent members in order to monitor
their well-being.
Wellness Education
The Harmony program provides wellness education groups that emphasize
stress management and life skills to foster expression and coping
skills. The members are also encouraged to volunteer for programs
such as "Meals On Wheels" and attend activities in the
community to increase socialization. In addition, craft and exercise
groups are made available for the Harmony members to broaden their
personal abilities and to build self-esteem.
All activities, while strictly voluntary, are encouraged
by colleagues in order to assist individuals to develop and improve
employment related and daily living skills.
